Cheer me up
What was the greatest lesson you learned during
this outreach trip?
What helped you learn this lesson (describe experience, people, etc.)?
The greatest lesson I learned is that if we make
ourselves available to God, God will use us for His purpose and glory. The
trainees have set a very good example to me. Life in Hubei is not easy.
They have to take care of their family. (If they are husbands, they have
to work hard and make money for the whole family. If they are wives, they
have to take care of their children and may even work to earn money.) At
the same time, though they are not highly educated, they have a heart to
serve God in the church with God¡¦s word. I was very surprised to see how
powerful their prayers are, how eager they want to learn God¡¦s word and to
share the gospel with non-believers.
What were the best parts of the overall experience?
We had a chance of having dinner with the minister
of the Religion Bureau. He was very supportive to the church work. Out of
my expectation, he accepted our offer of praying for him in his presence
and singing the song ¡§Jesus loves you¡¨. I thank God for his openness to the
gospel as well as the boldness of Brother Yu and Sister Hung who often share
the gospel with him, giving him the Bible, hymnbooks and Christian books.
The trainees were very eager to learn. I felt very cold in the classroom
and almost felt asleep while sitting in the class. But they were very attentive.
They took notes, asked the trainers for clarification after class, studied
before and after class. Their attitude of study impressed me a lot.
It was a wonderful fellowship time with the trainers. Though it was a bit
sad not to have other ECC members joining the trip, I was happy to meet
the dedicated trainers from ABS. Not only are they well-prepared and experienced
to teach, they are true followers of Jesus Christ and show joy, kindness,
wisdom and strength which come form the Lord.
How
would you describe the effect this trip had on your personal: spiritual life/interest
in future outreach trips/God's overall plan for your life)
During the trip, I have been thinking what I can
do for the Lord in the trip and after it. Since I am not theologically trained,
I am not able to teach. But I love to hear the stories of the trainees.
Once, Ming Yee also suggested me of writing a book about their stories!
It may be a good idea.
I am still interested in outreach trips, but perhaps not this kind of training
trip. Instead, I would like to join one which I may involve more.
It may be a bit difficult to relate this trip to God¡¦s overall plan for
my life. But from the lives of the trainees, I find myself unfamiliar with
God¡¦s word and lack of love and faith. Through them, God was refining my heart.
