Gary Oak Well, Gary has definitely changed over the course of the show. When the show started, Gary was an obnoxious, selfish person. This pattern continued up until the start of the Johto League, when we were given a surprise introduction to the new and greatly improved Gary. Who no longer travels with those super-annoying cheerleaders (yay!) but alone, and has a much better attitude. He treats Ash much nicer now, and is also nicer toward his Eevee, which is now an Umbreon. Ash hasn't grown up as much as Gary has, and he still thinks of Gary as the same boy he used to be. This makes Ash look very bad, and now it appears to be him that is the obnoxious, selfish one. The only time that Ash and Gary have ever battled each other was in "The Rivalry Revival", and Ash totally lost. Although, sometime later on, we will get to see them battle again, and who knows who'll win that time...
