The Meaning of Life

What is the meaning of life?  That is a question that has boggled many people for centuries.  Could it be that the meaning of life is so simple that we fail to see it, for we think that it is something so complex.  In my short-lived life of 18 years, I have also been boggled by this question; I don’t think that any man on earth will ever know the true meaning of life.  We can hypothesis about the meaning of life, in my short years I have come up with two hypotheses about the meaning of life.

First Hypothesis

Most of us are born into society as a “worker bee”.  We are raised and we are educated so that we can be someone better in life.  In reality this does not make us someone better, this gives us the opportunity to acquire a “better job”.  Our main function in life, in society, still remains the same; we are to be productive as worker bees are expected to be.  A white-collar worker has the same function in society as a blue-collar worker does; it all comes down to being productive.

Society cannot function with out a population of  “worker bees”.  We are born into it and we are expected to dedicate our lives to this society.  We become slaves of this society.  Five days a Week we dedicate 40 hours if not more to work, just so that we can have our own lives.  Sure we get paid but where does it go?  It goes to your house payment, rent, car payment, taxes, insurance and utilities.  Through out our whole lives we are expected to work, your freedom is in a way striped away from you.  Work its something that most of us can’t get away from, we need to work, because we live in a society where work is a necessity.

Once we start working we don’t get the chance to stop until we get to the age of 65!  Even then we are not fully compensated for the years that were spent on work.  Look at the elderly where are they? In convalescent homes!  Being mistreated, abused, beaten up, ignored……..is this what we get for being dedicating most of our lives, involuntary, to society?  It sickens me to realize that this is going to be true for most of us.  Others have the opportunity of not being “worker bees” to those I tell you enjoy and cherish it, because it is a great gift.

For the most part the meaning of life is Work.  We are born, we grow up and we begin to work, we will work for the rest of our young life.  For a year of work we only get 3months, if we are blessed, of vacation time.  Three months for which we are “free” to do as we please.  In life we are going to be slaves, slaves to our household, slaves to our work, and slaves to society.  We are not free!
