Abstract

<>Designers of aircraft should be able to determine the flow field about the vehicle under considerations. The study involves the aerodynamics analyses of the vehicle. This includes the scientific study of the way in which air moves, and the reactions felt by the vehicle surfaces due to its motion. In aeronautical engineering, this study will lead to the analyses of lift and drag of that particular vehicle. Good designers should be able to access a number of different configurations and flow conditions by means of computational approach. There are various computational tools available to assist the designers in deriving accurate result with low execution time. One of them is RDS software, specially developed for operation on a personal computer. This software is developed based on the methods in AIAA textbook ‘Aircraft Design: A conceptual Approach ‘. RDS features module for design and layout, and has analysis module for aerodynamic, weights, propulsion, and cost. This paper concentrate more on the aerodynamics analyses, as this area of study is known to be the crucial part in designing aircraft. The study model for these analyses is the ZODIAC CH 10 light aircraft, which provides the technical input data for the software.
