Gambler's Fallacy

I am a degenerate gambler. I've never had a proper bankroll of 500 big bets or 25-30 buy ins for the NL games. One buy-in was all I ever wanted. One buy-in was all I ever wanted. Let it ride. My belief was that if you play absolutely perfect, with the exception of the inevitable cooler, you'd never lose.

Three years later, I the results tell me otherwise. Variance is inevitable. It is something that is just accepted. You keep playing, making the absolute best/optimal decisions possible. The results will speak for themselves.

Three years later, my two idols, notorious gamblers themselves, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu are broke. Patrick Antonious and Brian Townsend are making millions. This is not to validate one school while vindicating the other. But, you gotta give credit where credit is due.

My plan is a 20-25 buy in NL plan. $2500. Dedicated solely for the purpose of playing .5/1 NL games. Move up once I read 25 buy ins for 1/2 = $2500. Move down to .25/.50 NL if I get down to $1500. It's going to be hard to remove my ego/pride to play properly, but this is the only way to go.

I ran $100 into $1,500 on Pokerstars Friday. I lost it all except for my initial $100, Saturday morning.

There is one scene in the Matrix Revolutions that frames this perfectly. In the movie, the atmosphere of the Earth was 'torched' so no sunlight would penetrate to the ground. In Revolutions, for just one brief second, Neo and Trinity are launched above the darkened sky and witness the beauty of daylight. It's that sense of hope that gives them something to live for. Me turning something of value into something gives me something to live for.

How sick is that...

Updates:

I withdrew from UC Berkeley for the 2nd time a few weeks ago. Here's what happened. I didn't do any homework outside of class. Since there is no homework in polisci classes, that means there are tests and papers. Since I didn't do any work outside of class, put 1 + 1 together and you get a real recipe for disaster.

When I went to my college adviser, I wasn't sure what to expect. I fucked up, what's the plan now was my line. I told this nice lady about my gambling problem and she asked if I ever sought professional help. I said no, and we both agreed it was worth a try at least.

I was really nervous about doing it at first. Am I going to say something I never intended to say? Do I hate my parent's? Am I so in denial I can't even formulate meaningful sentences without weird utterances? I swear this happens every now and then!

The first session was awful. IMO I thought I came out as a complete whack job who only thought about gambling 24/7. Personally, I don't know what the function of therapy is or how therapy sessions are supposed to work. I only know what I've seen from movies like Good Will Hunting, What About Bob? and those 20/20 specials.

Matt, dropped by BN tonight w his girlfriend and his other friend. Now he knows I grind coffee for a living. I still have no clue about what / where I'm going to work, if I'm even going to work in two weeks. It's interesting. Matt and Kevin are the type of people who spend their winnings on clothing, bape, fitted caps, camos, and the such. I've never been a real big fashion aficianado. Just not my thing. Hell I only own three pairs of shoes!

Poker related news .

Went to Oaks and staked John to play 6-12 around noon. We left at 2. John went busto. I came up 200 playing the 15-30. Pretty uneventful day to say the least. The 6-12 table was soft as hell. $$$ . Passive loose players coldcalling weak holdings preflop and chasing but never aggressively attacking the pot.

Lamont Jordan plays at the Oaks. He's a fucking maniac. Great for all the other players. Friday, he played an entire orbit BLIND betting/calling/raising but not folding. It was something to watch.
