There is one scene in the Matrix Revolutions that frames this perfectly. In the movie, the atmosphere of the Earth was 'torched' so no sunlight would penetrate to the ground. In Revolutions, for just one brief second, Neo and Trinity are launched above the darkened sky and witness the beauty of daylight. It's that sense of hope that gives them something to live for. Me turning something of value into something gives me something to live for.
