Discussion #4: The truth about Work Experience Work experience. In all schools (at least to the extent of my knowledge) work experience is
compulsory. If not, then the teachers highly recommend that you undertake it.
Either way, you'll end up doing it at least once in your lifetime. If you don't
well then lucky for you. The teachers will tell you that work experience is an opportunity for you to to
see what the work place environment is like. Oh yes, you certainly get to see
what the environment is like- from the lowest possible angle. Lemme break it down for you. Personally, I now view work experience in such a
way that it doesn't just show you what the work environment is like but it
prepares you for the worst jobs imaginable. For my work experience, I received
the most crappiest jobs which nobody else wanted to do. So after you complete
your work experience, you can rest assured that when you actually go out and
work for real, that you won't receive any jobs which are any more shit than the
ones you had to complete during work experience. Work experience students are treated as just that. Work experience kids.
They're not even close to being a real employee. But apparently if you accept a
part-time job offer from your work experience place, then they treat you better,
or so I've heard. Apparently work experience is a learning experience. Bah. As if. You wanna
know what I've learned from my work experience? Okay here is a short
list/summary of what I've learnt during my work experience. #1. How to pull and open up plastic bags quickly. #2. Toilet paper sells well. #3. Date-forging #4. Tissue paper can hurt when there's lots of it. #5. If you're not busy, LOOK busy or else somebody will come up and ask you
to do something that you don't want to do. Now there are lucky people out there who will receive an extremely cushy work
experience placement. If you are one of them, well then good for you. Cushy work
experience placements are usually centered around office work where you all you
basically do is sit on your ass all day and file, photocopy and do various other
crap and get paid heaps more than those who actually do real work. I've heard from a certain somebody (I won't divulge their name) that they
were even able to sleep at during the work experience. So if you are able to,
attempt to get a cushy work experience usually at one of your parent's, family
friends' or relative's work place. Now I'm sure that as long as you rock up to your work experience, you can't
fail it. Although if you don't do it you apparently fail. Yeh, I head that from
somebody else who I won't mention. But yeah, the best you can possibly do is
rock up and prepare yourself for doing crap jobs like taking out the trash to
the dumpster, vacuuming, moping, etc, etc. Hey if you're lucky you might even get more than the compulsory $5 a day for
your labor.
