Discussion #2: Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?
Everybody's heard the expression that breakfast is the most important meal of the day right? But think for a moment, is it really true? I for one, disagree. Sure breakfast is important, but is it the most important meal of the day?
Before we begin, let's first ask ourselves. What is breakfast? The definition of breakfast, according to the Pocket Oxford Dictionary, is "first meal of the day."
I think that dinner is the most important. Why you ask? Well consider this. For breakfast, people have like one course yeah? You wouldn't even call it a course I suppose. Yeah, maybe in the old days, those rich snobby people might have a few courses for breakfast, but even if they did, surely they would've had more courses for dinner than breakfast?
Secondly, most people are more inclined to skip breakfast instead of dinner. Why is that? Quite simple really. Breakfast, requires you to wake up in order to eat it. If people are lazy (or tired) they might oversleep and miss it. If they're running late and need to go somewhere, they'll skip breakfast.
Last of all, I find breakfast very boring. I seriously do. I often find myself wondering what there is to eat for breakfast. Sure there's toast and cereal. But I can eat that everyday for breakfast. You need variety. I suppose you could eat pancakes and waffles as well as lots of other stuff, but really, who can be bothered actually making them? Pancakes and waffles, take time to make (that is if you want to make them taste good) and let's face it. Time is money. Or something else equally important. Anyway the point I am trying to make here is that to have a good breakfast, you need to put effort in. And well, some people (like me) are too lazy to since they are tired and sleepy from just waking up. And if you want to put effort into making breakfast, you have to get up even earlier to do it. Who the hell would want to do that? Certainly not me. I love to sleep. I'm not going to wake up earlier and lose sleep just so that I can have a half decent breakfast. But on the other hand, people take time to prepare dinner. Therefore dinner is more important and breakfast isn't.
The evidence above clearly shows that breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Thus in conclusion, it is my belief that dinner is actually in fact the most important meal of the day.
