| You know what I can't stand? When people say they hate rap music. It's insanity and it must stop!! Everyone who says they hate rap and hip-hop have never heard it. Seriously, the rap you hear on mtv or the radio is NOT real rap. Basing your opinion of the genre by listening to a couple of 50 cent or Eminem songs is as ridiculous as basing your entire interpretation of punk music on Avril Lavigne. It's just not right. Real rap, real hip-hop is a brilliant meaningful brand of music. The lyrics are more than just bitches, partying, pimps, and being gangster. Real rappers tell about what life is like in their worlds, about all of the problems and issues they see around them. They rap about what they've learned, their philosophies, their opinions. Rap is about speaking your mind, telling your story, communicating life. It isn't about all the superficial shit you're seeing. Look a little closer. Listen to some other artisists like Mos Def, Kanye West, Little Brother, Common, Nas, Jay-Z's Black Album. Listen to what they're saying to you, hear the passion and intensity in their voices. Or at the very least, give the genre a little respect. |
