End the Use of Secret Evidence -- An unusual coalition has introduced legislation in the House of Representatives that would end the government's practice of using secret evidence to indefinitely detain immigrants.
The new House legislation (H.R. 1266) was introduced by Reps. Davd Bonior (D-MI), Bob Barr (R-GA), John Conyers (D-MI) and Tom Davis (R-VA). It would establish procedures for handling classified information in immigration cases that would protect both the due process rights of the accused and the government's national security interests.
Take Action! Secret evidence is a feature of totalitarian governments, not of a democracy! You can read more about the legislation and send a FREE FAX to your Representative from our action alert at:

Heroes:
I am forwarding this message to you, emphasizing that two warnings accompan= y it.
Warning No. 1: The official position of the Pima County Libertarian Party = Shown 1%, press <SPACE> for more, 'q' to quit, or 'h' for help is that it is not endorsing or proposing to become involved in any activity= not currently on its plate.
Warning No. 2: One of our members has pointed out that the upcoming protes= t described below is backed by hard-line left organizations including remna= nts of the Communist Party, and has asked the question, "Do we want to be s= een associating with people of this political stripe?"
I plan to attend this demonstration (as a private individual) because I am = against the War on Drugs. I really don't care about the allegiances of other people at the demonstrat= ion (for example, members of the International Association of Syphilitic P= edophiles--that one just came to me). For those of you who feel the same = way I do, the notification below is for you.
David

Alex:
I am forwarding your e-mail to all members of the list serv for the Pima = County Libertarian Party. This is a group to which I belong, but I am not = an officer. I therefore cannot speak for the Party, but I am sending a sep= arate e-mail to Jay Walsh, Chairman of the Party, to make sure he is aware = of your plans. I am sure he will encourage our members to participate.

Dear Fellow Activist:
Y.U.R. political activism club, a student organization based at Catalin= a Foothills High School, is in the midst of organizing an important, long o= verdue event. On Friday, May 4, at 4:30 p.m., we are hoping to have the lar= gest protest of the War on Drugs in recent history. The Drug War has recent= ly begun to come under fire in the mainstream media, and some mainstream po= liticians (even our president!) are even starting to question the draconian= policies that have resulted in our nation's biggest prison boom ever.
An instrumental goal in this protest will be citizen participation, and= the best way to do this is the formation of a coalition of groups willing = to support this cause. We are hoping that your group will help get the word= out and, in turn, we will put your name on our flier and press releases as= supporters/co-organizers. This issue is essential and, for the first time = Shown 7%, press <SPACE> for more, 'q' to quit, or 'h' for help in many years, we have a chance to see to it that these policies are change= d. But, without your participation, this action will no doubt make less of = an impact than we are hoping for.
Please email me (Alex Provan) at [email protected] or call me at 797-9= 568 to confirm your interest. I have included a prototype flier (front and = back) with the name of your organization at the bottom. I will remove your = name if your group is not interested. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Alex Provan
