Bibliography |
The first section (I) of annotated citations were sources for the meat of this paper. For further research, there is also included (II) a listing of non-annotated references used - these are sources that were read (and are important!) but were not necessarily crucial to the paper. Important to mention are various readings by David Bearman, Richard Cox, Margret Hedstrom, and Donald Waters - anyone interested in the topic of Digital Preservation should read everything by these excellent thinkers. To point you in the right direction, included here is a listing (III) of several comprehensive bibliographies of digital preservation resources. |

Casey, Carol. The Cyberarchive: A Look at the Storage and Preservation of Web Sites. College & Research Libraries. July, 1998, Vol. 59, Number 4; pg.304-310. |
One of the trickiest areas of digital preservation is trying to figure out how to archive networked information that may be spread across several machines. Carol Casey provides a good introduction to what promised to be one of the most fascinating threads in the digital preservation tangle. |

Rothenberg provides a good introduction to the problems, stating that we need a sound technical approach on which to base policy. He then looks at and dismisses many of the popular ideas for digital preservation, arguing that emulation is best solution. Although in the end this is a paper arguing for further thinking on the emulation issue, the beginning parts provide a very good framework of the issues. |
