Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Manual:
III.C.1.A: Fear

Fear is good. If you had not been scared out of your wits when you first heard about the possibility of DMD, you probably would not have gone and read this book. That's a good first step: if it doesn't let you know how you can care for your child, it'll tell you that it is okay to ask questions of the people who do know.

Still, you may wake up in a cold sweat some nights, thinking "How are we ever going to do this? What if we can't?" At times like that, it is good to remember that all that can be expected of you is that you do the best you can. It would be nice to have all the amenities, and all the time in the world to spend with your child. But it's very well possible to make do with less, and if that is all your best efforts produce, than that will just have to be sufficient. What counts is not whether you are perfect (you aren't), but whether you have done the best you could. Don't let fear of the future prevent you from enjoying the present.
