Your pediatrician will also ask you questions about your family, and your spouse's: was any of your relatives in a wheelchair? Do you know why?
That may pinpoint the problem, because DMD can be inherited. Often, mothers carry the gene that causes DMD, so others with DMD may show up in the mother's family. In about one-third of the cases, though, DMD comes about as a result of a spontaneous, new mutation. So the fact that no one else in the mother's family has anything like it does not prove that what your child has cannot be DMD.
