Friends of the Verde Hot Springs
Welcome Friends

This photo clearly shows how the distinct green color of the Verde River helped the early Native Americans give the river its name.

The Verde River becomes Wilderness just below the Childs Campground. The Verde Hot Springs is approximately one mile upriver of the campground.

There are plans in motion that will soon bring tremendous change to this area. As a Friend of the Verde Hot Springs we hope you will visit us often for the latest area news.

The "Gazette" for late breaking Verde Hot Springs News
Late breaking news on the Verde Hot Springs area is now available in theVerde Hot Springs Gazette. This month's lead story reports the latest word on the closing of Childs and Irving power plants.
Keeping Cool

Me Naked?

With record temperatures this summer, finding a cool spot can be a challenge. But look no further, Childs Campground has a very special solution.

Nestled in the trees and reeds of the Verde shoreline, at the north end of the campground, are a series of waterfalls and pools.

The constant water temperature of seventy-two degrees year-round makes this a very special place.

Having an opportunity to live here for several Seasons has allowed me to create quite a Photo Gallery of Verde pictures.

Come view the Verde at its most powerful. Enjoy the humor, freedom, and naturalness of its people.

Visit us frequently. Enjoy the beauty of this special area. Become a friend of the Verde Hot Springs.

So, you are concerned you might see naked people during your visit with us. It is possible. There is no nudity allowed in Childs Campground, but clothing is optional at the hot springs.

A recent study done in the USA and England, found that 80% of the people surveyed thought that skinny-dipping was great fun. Relax, you just might find less is more.

Editors Corner

Since November of 2002, I have been blessed by the opportunity to live on the Verde River at the Childs power plant.

As the Forest Service's volunteer camp host, I have had the opportunity to observe the Verde River and its people at their best, and sometimes less than perfect moments.

Such a place of healing and growth. I hope to share some of its special stories with you.
