Some insight about Chirp, Dalo's parrot

Posted by (Silk) 2-25-1999 Title: "Parrot of Ratfink?"

Feeling somewhat weak, Silk took a seat at the bar and stared at the colorful parrot Eremis left behind when he ran up the stairs after Valhorek. "Erlic's a grumpy, old bastard," the bird said, suddenly.

Silk raised a brow, surprised to hear the thing talk. "Erlic eh?" she mumbled, thinking of the bearded man who had recently joined Turin's guild.

"Erlic won't like a rat in his bed Dalo," the bird said.

Silk laughed, wondering who Dalo was and why the parrot kept mentioning Erlic's name. She asked Mave to bring her a glass of wine then decided to see what else the bird might come out with. "Who is Erlic?" she asked it.

"Erlic's a grumpy, old bastard," the bird repeated. "I'll get right on it boss."

Again Silk raised a brow before taking a sip of the wine Mave delivered. When she lowered the glass, the parrot walked right up to it and took a sip of his own. "You like wine?" Silk asked.

"Boros drinks too much wine," the bird said.

"And who is Boros?" Silk asked, enjoying herself.

"Get to work on those smoke bombs Boros," the parrot replied.

Silk stared at the bird who took another sip of wine. Smoke bombs? Now that was an interesting comment! "Who is Dalo?" Silk asked her new friend, hoping to learn more.

"Faster Dalo, faster," it squawked. "I love your cave Dalo."

Silk shook her head, trying to make sense of the bird's words. "Tell me more about the smoke bombs," she whispered.

"One part rare earths, one dram sulfur," the bird answered.

"Let's go for a walk," Silk said, coaxing the parrot onto her outstretched fingers, while holding the wine in her other hand. She slowly made her way across the tavern to one of the private rooms at the opposite end. Once she was inside with the bird, she locked the door behind her and took a seat at a small table, placing the parrot down before her. "Now we can continue our talk without anyone eavesdropping."

"Rake you," the parrot said.

Silk laughed once again then went on to question her little prisoner further. She was both perplexed and amazed by some of the answers she received.
