Info: Nate has to live with the fact that he caused his mercenary father's (Willem) death. At the age of 10 he ran out into the street to retrive a gold coin just as a carriage came flying around the corner. His father rushed to push him out of the way and ended up getting trampled by the horses.

Nate's mother (Ebba) never forgave him for his father's death. She took to drinking heavily, and began verbally abusing him daily. Eventually Ebba locked him out of the house and sold all his things, forcing Nate to learn to survive on the streets. Because of his mother, he has some self esteem problems and has a hard time believing he deserves to be happy.
