Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - List of Works

Mozart composed over 600 works. Starting on February 9, 1784 he kept a catalogue of what he composed and this makes the dating of works composed after this date somewhat easier. But this doesn't help for the almost 450 works prior to this date.

In 1851 Ludwig K�chel decided to compile a complete chronological catalogue after having read a pamphlet that lamented the state of knowledge regarding Mozart's compositions. Between 1851 and 1862 he researched his Chronologisch- thematisches Verzeichnis s�mtlicher Tonwerke Wolfgang Amade Mozarts
(Eng. Chronological- Thematic Directory of the Complete Compositions of Mozart), the first work on this scale for any composer.

The K�chel (K or KV) numbers are assigned in what was believed to be chronological order, but due to the improvements in musicological research the original numbers have sometimes been altered. The K�chel catalogue is currently in its 6th revision and is published by Breitkopf & H�rtel.

In the event that you want more detailed information about Mozart's works, please consult a copy of the K�chel catalogue in a local library. Even though it is in German it is not too difficult to understand. Obviously we cannot offer all of the information contained in its pages.
