All cavosurface margins are smoothed to create sharp continuous margins while maintaining a smooth-flowing outline form. The gingival cavosurface margin is planed with gingival margin trimmers to remove any and all unsupported enamel rods.
All internal surfaces are cleansed and debris removed. Prior to placement of final restorative materials, the preparation is dried but not dessicated. Depending on individual circumstances, dentin bonding agents, liners, and bases may be indicated prior to placement of amalgam.
