Sitophaladi churna is one of the ancient herbal remedies for cough, cold and asthama. Sitopaladi churna derives its name both from the sugar ingredient (sitopaladi = that which contains sitopala) as well as the fact that it has cooling, demulcent action on the lungs. sita (more accurately sitopala) means sugar candy, but not sweet. Sita means "Sugar". Sugar is main content of this powder. This is the best remedy for cough problem. Children and infants can take this powder due to sweet taste, because most of Ayurveda powder has bitter taste.

An aromatic blend of Indian medicinal spices traditionally used to open the upper air passages (lungs, nasal passages, sinuses), in conditions of asthma, hay fever, sinusitis and congestion from colds. All natural, not habit forming.

This is a formula consisting of rock candy, bamboo manna, pippali (piper longum), cardamom and cinnamon. It may be taken in does of 1-4 gm, 2-4 times daily, and is a balanced formula, extremely valuable in all types of sinusitis, although it is most effective as an anti-kapha remedy. A fine powder taken by mouth as an effective remedy for sore throat, mucous, excess phlegm, upper respiratory congestion. The dose is 1-5 gm with honey, three times a day.

In the Ayurvedic system of herbalism it is considered a tonic. Sitopaladi churni is used for treatment and prevention of colds, coughs, bronchitis and asthma. It is made by combining 1 part cinnamon, 2 parts cardamom, 4 parts black pepper, 8 parts bamboo tabisheer (powdered), 16 parts raw sugar. All are ground together into a powder. The DOSE is 3 to 12 grams.

Traditionally in Ayurveda, Sitopaladi is a formula that assists in drying up excess mucus particularly within the respiratory channels. The only difference is that Sitopaladi dries up the cough and reduces / balances Kapha inside the body by digesting it. Where as Talisdari liquefy the phlegm and expel it through by coughing and vomiting.

For both vataja and pittaja kasa, the classical formulation, Sitopaladi churna is commonly used. It may also be prepared in warm water or with honey. Sitopaladi churna is a combination of many herbs and spices with vamsa rochana as the chief herb in the formulation.

DABUR SITOPALADI CHURNA POWDER: Useful in cold, cough & fever. Key Ingredients: Bambusa arundinacea, Piper longum, Elettaria cardamomum, Cinnamomum zeylanicum. Recommended Dosage: 3 to 5 gm (half to one teaspoonful) twice a day with honey.

Vanshlochan ( Bambusa arundinacea ) : It has vaat pitta shamak effect and also act as cardio tonic. it has diuretic, blood- purifying, anti toxicant&anti inflammatory effect It is used in combination with other drugs to relieve burning sensation It is a stimulant and a tonic used in anaemia, internal hemorrhage & chronic dysentery. The essence of vanshlochan, the white earthy concretion formed in hollow of bamboos, bamboos mamma can help to cure - cough / coughing, fever, T. B., thirst. It is also useful in treatment of leprosy, skin diseases, burning sensation, fever, debilitating diseases and in asthma. The extracts of vanshlochan are used along with modern medicines for long-term treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis with peptic ulcer, which are common.

Pippali (Long Pepper) : The Ayurvedic texts list Pippali as one of the most powerful Rasayana herbs, meaning it is a longevity enhancer. It also cleans the shrotas that transport nutrients and remove wastes, so it is considered important for purification. It balances two of the three laws of nature at work in the mind and body (Vata and Kapha). It also soothes the nerves to improve the quality of sleep at night. It provides relief from cough, consumption, dyspnea, hiccup, throat infections, piles, assimilation disorders, anemia, and irregular fever.

Pippali is the best drug recommended in the disorders of the spleen. It is a powerful stimulant for the digestive and respiratory systems. It is strongly heating and removes cold, congestion and ama the undigested toxic elements and revives the weakened organic functions. It is also a rejuvenative to lungs and kapha dosha. Pippali is beneficial as a brain tonic and in the diseases of vata.

Pippali enhances all 13 of the metabolic processes (Agnis) that create the 7 categories of bodily tissues (Dhatus).Along with Black Pepper and Ginger, Pippali is part of the famous digestive formula known as Trikatu (Three Spices).

Other medicinal uses
Astama : Asthma is known as Shwaasa roga in Ayurveda. There are five main types of asthma in Ayurveda: tamaka shwaasa roga, urdhwa shwaasa roga, chinna shwaasa roga, maha shwaasa roga and kshudra shwaasa roga. All these kinds of shwaasa roga are due to vitiation of vata and kapha doshas. The main types of vata that are vitiated are the praana vata and the udaana vata.

Sitopaladi choorna is a very common medicine taken by asthmatic patients. It is to be taken thrice or four times a day, mixed with honey One alternative to sitopaladi choorna is the pippaladi choorna. Agastya rasayana is another popular medicine which is prepared with Chebulic Myroblan as its main ingredient. Along with Chyavanprasha, it is commonly prescribed to asthmatic patients. In chronic cold or allergic bronchitis, use along with "Sitopaladi Churan" and "Chayawanprash".
