Realizing that fact Rick knew there was only one thing he could do and that was ask for his release from his contract. He figured that he had a better chance at making more money and getting exposure to fans and other companies that might allow him to get in to the ring. Well he was half right...once he got his release he was getting more exposure on the independent scene, but the money was actually less. Rick spent a year on the indy circuit before he was contact by his previous employer again, but this time it was a for a better contract. It was more money than what he was making as an indy wrestler, but it was granted him a few dark matches.
Dark matches of course are not the best matches in the world, because it means you will hardly ever get a chance at wrestling any of the big stars of the company or any television time, but at least he was able to get in the ring against other dark match talent and show them what he could do in the ring and also the XWL fans were getting a chance to see as well, because everyone knows that fans make or break a wrestler in this day and age. Rick spent two years in dark matches before he was promoted to wrestling the opening matches of Xplosion, Intensity, and Insanity each week. Again opening matches werent the best kind of matches, but he was moving up in the company as they also give him a rookie valet by the name of Whitney Cadra. The two of them looked perfect together on screen and on the internet rumors started to pop up that the two were a couple off screen, but that couldnt have been farther from the truth than it was.
The two of them couldnt get alone when they were off screen to the point that The XWL couldnt book them for any autograph signing which didnt go over to well with their fans when Rick started to get a rather large fan base going behind him. Then it all came to ahead when Rick substained an injury during a match against Chris Barrows...Cadra went to XWL management and claimed that Rick has sexually assaulted her. The accusation lead to Ricks contract being terminated while he was sidelined with an A.C.L. tear in his left knee. However, it also resulted in the termination of Cadra. While Rick was in rehab for his knee injury he thought that his career was over before it had a chance to really go any where due to a bogus claim of sexual assault. However, Rick lucked out and shortly after he was cleared to wrestle again he was contacted by Chris Barrows the very man that had beat him in his last match in the XWL. It seemed that Barrows had became Head of Talent Relations while Rick was gone and had come to the conclusion that the Cadras claim had been false.
What happened next could only really be summed up as a fairy tale ending as his contract was reinstated and that he could return to work as soon as he was ready too. Needless to say that he didnt take his sweet time in getting back to work. One of his first matches back was against Michael Ryba the then XWL Xtreme Worlds Champion in a title match. Rick lost the match, but he didnt let that get him down and the following week he was in a fatal four way ladder match for The XWL Youngblood championship. His championships hopes were turned back once again, but he didnt let that get him down either. He started to work even harder to get noticed to earn another shot at any of the titles in the XWL. Rick started to send shock waves through out the XWL as he got involved in a brutal war between Ryba and Michael Stevens.
To many it looked like that it was the war that would never end and that it was going to see the end of Rick with his always getting in the of it when the battles happened backstage. However, Stevens won the title from Ryba at The XWL Pay Per View When Worlds Collide. From there it seemed like The XWL wanted to push Rick as one of the few main men towards The Xtreme Worlds championship giving him the first shot at Stevens newly won title. Stevens was able to retain his title, but that didnt stop Ricks desire or passion to become the champion. The XWL made a rematch between the two of them, but it wasnt for the title. The match was to see whether or not Rick or Stevens would be choosing the stipulation to their title rematch the week after that. Rick won the match with a little help from Nero Silveria.
For his prize he could choose the stipulation to their match the following week and the match that Rick chose for the match was one of his own creation...The Insanity Cage. It was a brutal and bloody match that the both of them looked like they werent going to make it out of it alive, but they both managed, but not with out their injuries...Stevens back was in very bad shape after the match and Rick sprained his M.C.L. in his left knee...however the both of them didnt slow down and the both of them didnt take any time off from the ring. Stevens wanted to defend his title against some new at the next XWL Pay Per View Lost Souls...so the XWL decided that they would hold a Six man elimination Last Man Standing match. The match featured the likes of Michael Ryba, Chris Barrows, Dark Angel, Stalker, La Magra, and Rick Young.
The winner of the match would go on to face Michael Stevens in an Iron Man match. Before the match even started Michael Ryba was eliminated due to being involved in a car accident on his way to the arena. With the remaining five men in the match the match was still brutal one everyone in it, but Rick was able to steal the victory from La Magra after he was hit with Barrows Bronx Bomb, Stalkers Creeping Death, and finally Ricks own Sensational Driver. Stevens was furious when Rick won the match getting yet another shot at the title. So Stevens attacked Rick and then declared if Rick couldnt beat him at Lost Souls that he would never be able to have another shot at The Xtreme Worlds championship as long as he was champion.
So there was a lot more riding on the title match now for Rick than Stevens. Knowing this Rick wouldnt be happy with anything short of winning and that showed through out the whole match as for first forty minutes of the match the two of them couldnt get a clear advantage in falls as it was tied three falls apiece and it looked like the first person to get the next fall would be the winner of the match. The next fall went to Rick with a little help from Suicidal Joe, but it didnt take long and it looked like Stevens was going to pick up another fall to tie it back up and the fifty-five minute mark of the match, but La Magra interfered in the match as if he was going to help Stevens, but Rick ducked and he nailed Stevens. Rick was able to pick up yet another fall giving him a clear cut two fall advantage over Stevens. However, Stevens would manage to come within one fall, but during the tying pin fall attempt time expired meaning Rick had won the match and his first taste of gold.
Rick was the man on top of the mountain now and he knew that he wasnt going to easy to stay on top, because he knew how hard he pushed Stevens and he knew how much of a threat Stevens saw him to The XWL Xtreme Worlds championship that was now around his waist. Stevens after the match took time off, because he needed back surgery. Rick...however was starting to really feel the pain in his knee from his sprained M.C.L., but he couldnt take time off since he was champion now and also because he had promised a shot at the title to La Magra at the first Insanity after Lost Souls. Meaning that Rick only four days to rest from the brutal pay per view match. In his first title defense Rick was much slower than what he had been in his matches trying to not to worsen his knee injury and it cost him the title as La Magra defeated him.
After losing the title as soon as he won he took two weeks off from wrestling to give his knee some time to heal. When he returned to the ring it seemed like he had lost his spot in the Xtreme Worlds title picture, but that didnt bother him at all. Sure he wanted to get his title back, but he also knew that it would take time to plot and plan the perfect way to get the title back. However, during the time he was plotting and planning his return to glory La Magra left the company due to a bitter contract dispute and the title was vacated along with The Youngblood championship. The XWL decided that to fill both titles they would have a triple threat two out of three falls ladder match pitting Chris Barrows against Michael Stevens against Rick Young. The first and only one of its kind. The match was brutal like most of Ricks match and in heart breaking fashion Stevens captured Youngblood championship and Barrows captured The Xtreme Worlds championship. After the match Rick was tossed out of the big picture again as Barrows and Stevens seemed to be the two that were the big picture now. Stevens won The Xtreme Worlds title from Barrows and dropped The Youngblood down to Dave Steel.
However, shortly after winning the title injury struck Stevens again and he was forced to vacate the title. This time there was a tournament set up to fill the vacant title featuring Michael Ryba, Dave Steel, Mark Knox, and Rick Young. Rick defeated Ryba in the first round as Knox defeated Steel. In the second/final round Rick defeated Knox in a Georges Island Death Match. The following week Rick was involved in the first ever Xtreme Warfare tag match with his brother Mike Young taking on the teams of Dave Steel and Nero Silveria, Anthony Sparks and Suicidal Joe, and Mark Knox and Mark Nickerson all fighting for the vacant 2xTreme tag team titles. The XWL fans voted this one on to the ballot for match of the year, but it didnt win, but in the match The Youngs won the match and the titles. The week after that though Rick was involved with Dave Steel in a coin flip match...a flip of the coin with determine whos title would be on the line would it be The Xtreme Worlds Championship or The Youngblood champion...before the match started the coin was flipped and it landed on heads.
The match then started with out either of them knowing what title would be on the line. After the match and a Steel victory they both found out the title that was on the line was none other than Ricks Xtreme Worlds championship. Rick had lost it in first defense again. Shortly after that both Ricks and Mikes contracts were coming up and the XWL was refusing to consider their demands for their new contracts and the result was that their contracts werent renewed which left the XWL with newly won tag titles...vacant again. Rick was gone for a month along with his brother before they came back to the XWL, but things werent the same after that month away. He wasnt getting pushed the way he was before and for six months didnt hold a title before he awarded the reinstated XWL New Blood Heavyweight Championship.
Being handed the title didnt mean as much as the three titles he had won, but he was still proud to be a champion again till he lost the title to Keith Robbins. Shortly after losing the title however, the XWL was focused to close it doors. After what remained on his contract with the defunct XWL he signed with American Wrestling Alliance (AWA) to try and further his career, but his career with The AWA was short lived however before his time was up with The AWA he and his brother had once again struck gold together winning The AWA Tag team championship from Matt B. Wild and a partner thats name has been lost in history. After leaving AWA Rick found himself in East Coast Connection (ECC) wrestling. There it seemed like he was destined to do great things as he was able to defeat Jesse Alexander in his first match with the company and the first main event match of the companys for that matter to win The ECC Ground Zero championship.
The following week after that Rick and his brother managed to defeat Shaolin and The Assassin to win The ECC Tandem Twin tag team championship. Rick was now a double champion for the second time in his career, but the first one in the history of the ECC. However, his luck wasnt about to run out any time soon in that sense at the first ECC Pay Per View Revolution...Rick lost his Ground Zero championship, but Rick was conserving himself as he had a second match later in their match. The second match was against Carnal Law with the winner becoming the first ever ECC Worlds Elite champion. Two weeks after Rick won the Worlds Elite title him and his brother lost The Tandem Twin championship to Revolution S (Michael and Josh Stevens). After losing the tag titles Rick went on to successfully defend his title against Carnal Law in a rematch and Hardcore Holmes before finally losing the title to Tyra Burke.
However, Rick wasnt away from the title very long as the following month Rick regained the title by defeating Tyra Holmes (she got married to Hardcore Holmes). Rick then would go on to defend the title for the first time against Michael Stevens a man that he has beat for the Xtreme Worlds championship in The XWL. The two of them met in a Steel City Thunder Dome match in with was probably the most brutal match for Ricks career..even more brutal than The Insanity Cage match against Michael Stevens. The two of them give the proverbial hundred and ten percent, but it was Stevens that was lucky enough to walk away with the championship. However during the match Rick also suffered a broken foot...not that it matter much, because ECC went under after that pay per view.
Once his foot was heal Rick signed with Ravens Loft Wrestling (RLW) and right away he was tossed in to the big picture of company by being put in to Premier championship tournament to determine the first ever champion. In the first round he defeated Danny Daring, in the second round he defeated Alex Wilkins and Tyler Page in a triple Threat match, and in the finals he defeated Crisis in an Insanity Cage match to become champion. However in his first defense he lost the title to Tyler Hardcore Holmes and suffered a broken neck and has been out of wrestling for a year now, but now he is looking to make his return to The AWA. Just two months after coming out of retirement and picking up some big wins against the new stars of the wrestling business in the AWA Rick is back in retirement. AWA was heading in to their second Super Card entitled Revenge which would have saw Rick talking on Reese Benson and Simon Sensation in a triple threat match for Sensations AWA Continental title when financial troubles started for the AWA that caused the show to never hit the air and personal reason that lead to Rick leaving the AWA for a couple months in order to have surgery on his bad knee.
