The Lord Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!

Celtic Easter Paean

Lyrics & music Copyright 2000 The Most Rev. Jon Ryner

1) Soldiers stormed the garden
and took Christ unarmed,
to take him to Pilate,
where he would be harmed. R/

R/ We sing "Alleluia!
De lion me le do ghra;
et pro nobis ora.
Tus'an Ri go braugh!

2) Blest Peter did strike then
the ear of a slave,
but sweet Jesu healed him
and bade all behave. R/

3) He suffered for us,
who should suffer in instead;
and of his precious church
has become the head. R/

4) The green blade did languish,
slain in the dark tomb;
but now has he sprung up
and burst from that womb. R/

5) Dark earth could not hold him,
where he lay three days;
yet the women went there
with the sun's first rays. R/

6) The stone was rolled aside,
and the cavern bare.
Only the white graveclothes
proved that he'd been there. R/

7) A dazz'ling white angel
said, "Why be dismayed?
He sure now is risen,
as he to you said." R/

8) Through great love and suff'ring
the victory's won.
We're now more than conq'rors
through Christ, God's dear Son. R/ (3 times)
