Brooklyn, NY February 5, 2004 -- Brooklyn design
company MAKE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, INC. is seeing sunshine
despite the winter storms. As retailers buy for spring and
summer, MAKE is about to make a big splash onto the housewares
scene with their Lemonade tumbler.
This is a really prime order from a key retailer in housewares.
This is the type of order that design companies such as ours
strive to gain. When you get it, its unbelievable; you realize
that all your hard work has paid off. Its very gratifying. Kevin
Williams, Designer, MAKE.
Brooklyn design company MAKE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, INC. is seeing
sunshine despite the winter storms. As retailers buy for spring
and summer, MAKE is about to make a big splash onto the
housewares scene with their Lemonade tumbler.
MAKEs Lemonade line of dinnerware has already sold over 6
million pieces at retailers like Fortunoff, Linens-N-Things, Bed
Bath & Beyond, and EXPO Design Center. Its the 22-ounce tumbler,
though, that has emerged as the star, making a winter appearance
in greater numbers than July beach bathers at Coney Island: 2.5
million of these Brooklyn designed, American made tumblers will
be delivered for immediate sale to Sams Club, the national
discount retailer.
How does a company like MAKE get their products to a national
market like Sams Club? It all starts with a great design. MAKE
is a collaboration of four designers: Kevin Williams, Scott
Lundberg, Scot Spratford, and McKay Duncan. The Lemonade tumbler
is distinguished by the rings that highlight the tumblers
curves, grabbing the sun and bending the light in unexpected and
playful ways.
The next step is manufacturing and distribution. At a time when
most manufacturing and production has gone overseas, the
Lemonade line was designed right in Brooklyn. MAKE has been in
Red Hook since 2001. We love it here, says Scott Lundberg,
designer at MAKE. There are new manufacturers, new woodworking
shops -- a whole bunch of new businesses. We like being part of
the revival of the Brooklyn Waterfront. The product is
manufactured by Creative Ware of Central Islip, NY (a division
of Creative Bath Products, Inc.), who also distributes the
product.
It was Creative Ware who set up the sale with Sams Club. After
the initial meeting, things happened quickly. Sams asked if MAKE
could revise the tumbler to their specifications. The answer was
a quick yes, and Sams ordered 2.5 million. At a retail price of
$15 for eight 22-ounce tumblers at 2.5 million pieces well,
thats a lot of lemonade. After a tough 18 months of recession,
and continuing pressure on American manufacturers from overseas
competition, a successful new product like the Lemonade line is
a boon for everyone in the local economy, not just the designers
who created it.
MAKE designed and created a great product line. Creative Ware is
proud to be the manufacturer and distributor of this MAKE
designed product, says Mat Meinzinger, President of Creative
Ware.
Other products designed by MAKE include the Forever Fresh Food
Storage Line, and a new paper towel holder that really works
with one hand. For more information about MAKE, INC., visit
