For those who are after slightly more up-market accommodation near the University of Adelaide, have a look on a service like wotif.com.au.  If you look at the map of where the campus is, you'll see that pretty much any hotel along North Terrace will be fine.  Most of them (like the Oaks Embassy, Oaks Horizon and Mercure Grosvenor) are actually on the west side of King William Street; but it's not very far away.  You might also see hotels on Hindley Street; That's what Rundle Street/Mall is called on the west side of King William Street.
