Uniform
Scouts should wear their uniform proudly as
an indication of their affiliation with BSA. The public widely and favorably recognizes
Boy Scouts.
Class A.
This uniform is the official BSA tan uniform shirt purchased at
the Capitol Area Council Office located on the southwest corner of Highway 290 and US 290
East, or at J. C. Penny's. A Scout's Class A uniform should bear all his current
insignia as illustrated on the inside front and back covers of the Scout Handbook.
Troop 256 furnishes many of the insignia
items. Troop 256 specifies events and situations when the Class A uniform is mandatory.
Either the Class A (preferred) or the Class B uniform is acceptable for regular meetings.
Whenever worn, the Class A uniform shirt is fully buttoned (except for the collar button)
and tucked into the pants. In addition to the tan shirt, the uniform consists of:
- The Troop 256 neckerchief, presented by the
troop, with an official or handmade slide.
- Shorts or trousers (Boy Scout shorts or
trousers preferred)
- The Boy Scout belt
- Closed-toed shoes (no sandals)
- Merit badge sash (mandatory for Courts of
Honor and Boards of Review, optional otherwise)
Class B.
This uniform is worn during camp out, but
not to and from camp out, other outdoor activities, and optionally at regular
meetings. The uniform consists of:
- An official red BSA golf-type shirt, or the
red Troop 256 T-shirt, or any T-shirt purchased from a BSA source
- Shorts or trousers (Boy Scout shorts or
trousers preferred)
- The Boy Scout belt
- Closed-toed shoes (no sandals). Hiking boots
recommended for hikes.
- A hat suitable for protection from the sun
and rain.
- A jacket, sweater, or sweat shirt
appropriate for the weather.
