Parent Participation Scouting supplements parental guidance and care; it does not replace it. Scouting presents a framework in which parents can interact with their sons in a way that leads to the goals presented above, as well as exposing them the parenting techniques of other adults. In order to realize these objectives, Troop 256 relies on the participation of mothers, fathers, and guardians of Scout members. Upon their son's joining, Troop 256 expects parents to assume an adult leadership role in the troop. Initially, this role need not be great. Parents of new scouts may wish to evaluate their adult leadership opportunities over time. Other adult responsibilities may determine in part the limits on their participation. Parents may organize or participate in a specific event, or fill an established leadership staff position. As parent experience grows, they may find particular niches in which they feel most comfortable. As the Troop becomes familiar with a parent's skills and preferences, the Troop may suggest appropriate adult leader contributions for that parent to make. The Activities Chair will ask parents who expect to provide transportation for Troop 256 activities to submit information on their vehicle and its insurance. |
