Meetings

General Troop Meetings
Troop 256 meets on each Tuesday night (except the last Tuesday in a month) at 7:00 PM at Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, TX 78745. Meetings last about 1.5 hours. Meeting may consist of: a general meeting, a physical activity/game, patrol meetings, merit badge training, equipment maintenance, special activity preparation, and/or other appropriate activities as needed. The troop expects all Scouts and selected adult leaders to attend.

Meetings open with a Scout color guard presenting the National Colors, and close with a ceremony during which the Scout color guard retires national colors, and the Troop's Chaplain Aide closes the meeting with a prayer.

Each meeting has a designated Service Patrol responsible for setting up the meeting room, furnishing the Color Guard, and returning the meeting room to its original state.

Patrol Leaders Council (PLC)
Troop 256's PLC meets on the last Tuesday night in a month at 7:00 PM at Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, TX 78745. Meetings last about 45 minutes. The PLC meeting may consist of: planning the following month's troop activities, selecting Service Patrols for the following month, planning for the longer range, and addressing any other appropriate topic. All Scout leaders are expected to attend.

Troop Committee
Troop 256's Committee meets on the last Tuesday night in a month at 7:30 PM at Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, TX 78745. Meetings last about one hour. The Committee meeting follows the PLC meeting. The Committee meeting may consist of: troop finances, troop policies, planning the troop activities from a strategic or longer range perspective, and addressing any other appropriate topic. All adult leaders and committee members are expected to attend.

Scoutmaster Conference
Rank advancement requires a Scoutmaster Conference. A Scout requests directly from the Scoutmaster a Scoutmaster Conference when he has met all the requirements for his next rank, except for the Scoutmaster Conference and the Board of Review. The Scoutmaster responds by scheduling a conference with the requesting Scout at the Scoutmaster's discretion. The Scoutmaster meets confidentially one-on-one with the Scout and covers topics of the Scoutmaster's choice.

Boards of Review
Rank advancement requires a Board of Review. A Scout requests a Board of Review from the Scoutmaster when he has completed his Scoutmaster Conference. The Board of Review consists of three registered adult leaders and must not include the Scout’s parent. The Board of Review solicits feedback from the Scout about the degree to which Troop 256 is meeting his needs and desires, and may include other topics at the Board’s discretion. The Board of Review prepares a Scout for similar occasions in the Scout’s adult life, such as employment interviews.

The Scout must appear in full Class A uniform, and present himself by appearance, demeanor, and speech at his personal best.

Troop 256 entertains requests for a Board of Review at any time, but normally convenes Boards of Review monthly only on the nights when the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) and the Troop Committee meet (i. e. - the last Tuesday of the month).

Courts of Honor
Troop 256 convenes Courts of Honor a few times per year in order to recognize rank advancement, merit badge achievements, and other appropriate honors. A Court of Honor usually replaces a regular troop meeting, and may include a covered dish dinner. Scouts must attend in full Class A uniform.

Parent Meetings
From time to time, special meetings involving selected parents may meet to discuss a special activity, event, or condition.

Roundtable
Comanche District convenes a monthly meeting on the first Thursday of each month at Manchaca United Methodist Church. All BSA units in Comanche District send representatives to receive training, share information regarding BSA and district activities, coordinate coming events organized at the district level, present awards to Comanche District staff members and BSA units, and conduct other business as required.
