Karen Pardee has on a green print skirt that could be used for smuggling items through the lines. Ladies of the time would sew pockets into the hoops and insides of their skirts to hide items from picket line sentries. Items that might have been hidden range from notes, maps of fortifications or troop movements, to food or something as simple as letters to a loved one on the "other side". Items that was most often smuggled were medicine or medical supplies. |
