B25 Mass Cave,
Other names: Wild Dog Cave, Sirius Cave
Grid Ref. 65204492
Depth: 16m Length: 60.7m
This cave has three entrances, a walk-in entrance and two daylight holes covered with grids for safety. The walk-in entrance contains an unlocked gate from which the boulder strewn passage slopes down at 200. Descent is aided by a chain bolted to the left hand wall. The passage passes the first daylight hole before narrowing. At this point the floor flattens out and the roof lowers for a few metres before opening out into a chamber containing the second daylight hole and some speleothems.
On the western side of this chamber a few pieces of wood lie scattered on the floor. These are all that remains of an altar used in Catholic Mass circa 1957 (Ellis et. al. 1972) from which the cave was named. At the northern end of the chamber the cave continues for a short distance. The small opening behind the column on the right leads to a small chamber 2m wide and l m high via a tight squeeze. The passage on the left is a steep soil slope leading to a dig under a flowstone-covered wall but continues for a further lOin to a dig at a higher level.
