WITHOUT by Elana Klugman

Without breasts
a woman's heart
rounds and softens her body,
bears her milk.

Without hair
a woman can fully
receive sunlight,
is crowned with the smoothness
of her scalp.

Without legs
a woman moves
with song and thought.

Without ears
she hears
what words
obscure.

Without eyes
she is not limited
by the confusion
of objects, color.

Without uterus, ovaries,
she spawns wisdom
with the turn of the moon.

Without her life's breath
a woman becomes earth,
the bearer of herb and seed,
rock and ground root.
