Live:
Rachel Stamp + Halo
London
Astoria
16th
February 2002
Looking like a tempered down Smashing Pumpkins, completed by bald front
man/guitarist, and sounding like a Muse at half mast devoid of Matt Bellamys
soaring vocals, Halo have a long way to go before they will actually be
headlining venues the size of the Astoria. Even as the new shinning hopefuls of
Sony, who are launching a full-scale promotional campaign by signing Halo up to
tour with every half decent band that should come within a 25mile radius of the
Brixton Academy, Halo have a lot to work on before itll be their chance at the
big time.
As relative newcomers though, Halo are doing pretty well and some of their songs
provide both catchy and melodious harmonies that are adorable. Like all things,
Halo need time to develop, especially on their sound and style they need their
own, rather than a watered down version of the aforementioned bands. The
question is whether or not Halo will be able to perform within the allotted time
and if Sony allow this new 4-piece a period in which to bloom.
The one on
the keyboards is THE woman, right?! God only knows but glamtastic rockers
Rachel Stamp are back and as disgracefully dramatic as ever! After a relatively
long break from gigging, the outrageous, but still gorgeous, 4-piece have signed
to a new label after months in the contractual abyss.
Tonight the Stamp eat up the stage devouring their chance to shine in the
spotlight, although quite a lot of competition comes from the sparkling, glitter
covered, Katy-Jane (from Queen Adreena) esque crowds in the mosh pit. Its clear
to see that although this band may not have hundreds of thousands of fans, for
the fans they do have Rachel Stamp is a way of life, a band that offers more
than just the music and can 100 percent GUARRANTEE to alleviate your boredom
from the 300 nu-metal wannabees this month or whoever may steal a place in the
Pepsi top 40.
True to form the band hold themselves with massive on stage appeal: decadence,
arrogance, senselessness the product of which is some gleaming glam rock
melodies and harmonies, and this is what makes Rachel Stamp so original. They
are living and breathing their world, they arerock stars and loving it and
they have the songs to back it all up.
Their new album is set to be released soon and the single Black Cherry within
the next few weeks. With wonderful songs, excessively rocking chords and a
pimps vocabulary of tasteless words you simply have to love Rachel Stamp. Steal
some fishnets, die your hair pink, paint your fingernails and join forces with
the glam rock collective!
