Seafood + Ikara Colt + Fat
Truckers @ Camden Underworld, Wed 12th Dec 2001
Apart from hearing a solitary track played
on the Evening Session, Id never heard of the Fat Truckers before
after their performance I wish it had stayed that way. They just didnt seem
to take this gig seriously. What gave me that idea? One of the guitarist's
trying to drink his beer whilst playing for a start! The front man, who had an
uncanny resemblance to Jamie Theakston but with a beard and huge lamb chop style
side burns, thought he was being clever by continually moving the microphone
up-and-down when he wasnt singing, obviously stuck for something to do.
Ikara Colt are
just mad! Thats the main impression I came away with after seeing them live
for the first time. Definitely one to see again.
A gargantuan crowd pressed up to the stage
just minutes before Seafood came on where had they all come from?
There was lots of die hard fans there, most seemed to know all the lyrics, and
the band delivered an amazing set, mostly taken from So When Do We Start
Fighting, with lots of frantic guitar.
The entire band left the stage, and the
encore began with David performing a beautiful, heart-wrenching acoustic version
of Desert Stretched Before the Sun. WOW! Enter the rest of the band, but
with another member! Vic (Vicky as she was introduced to the crowd) was for the
night Seafoods honorary flutist! And she definitely made an impression by
the end of the gig the chant of Vicky, Vicky, Vicky rang from the crowd!
Whatever next? A solo flute record from
Miss Bird perhaps?!
