Subject of the Post: Lincoln County Road or Armageddon

John L. Hawn wrote:

I always thought Lincoln County was not a specific place. It's a state of mind. Dylan is reminiscing about the past. The Lincoln reference is an allusion to freedom marches and the role Dylan played in the civil rights movement.

OK, but also: it *is* a specific place. It's the site of all the major events in the life of Billy the Kid, especially the so-called "Lincoln County War." So for me, the contrast between "Lincoln County Road" and "Armageddon" is a contrast between American history and Biblical end-of-history. Is Senor God, or the Devil, or just Pat Garrett?
