FRED the bus (Free Rides Everywhere Downtown) has had a successful summer in downtown Halifax. The gaily decorated yellow bus ran every 20 minutes through the Water St. and Spring Garden Rd. tourist areas from 11am to 6pm during June, July, and August. It was a hit with tourists and cruise ship patrons and benefitted from sponsored ads in the Halifax Herald papers. The service was supported financially by the Downtown Halifax Business Commission and merchants along the route.
