2003 Student Congress Tournament

“Students write the legislation, students choose which legislation to discuss, students debate the legislation, students vote on the legislation, students choose their own student presiding officers, students pick the best Presiding Officer for Permanent P.O., students vote for the student to represent them in Super Session, students elect the trophy winners...this is STUDENT Congress!”

General Information

The 2nd Autumn Classic will be an exciting opportunity for Student Congress competition!

-Over nine and hours of competition! Since this is a “Student Congress only” tournament the competition will be MUCH longer than the two or three short sessions at a typical invitational tournament.

-Only experienced, qualified adults will serve as Parliamentarians. Both new and veteran Congress contestants will benefit from the quality and expertise these people bring to the first tournament of the school year.

-Quality legislation. We will be using the NFL Nationals Semifinals round and Final round legislation as the core of the docket. Schools may introduce up to three pieces of legislation by e-mail before September 26th. All legislation will be e-mailed to each school a week before the tournament. No student written legislation will be admitted from the floor!

-Twelve contestants per school! Fees are only $5 per person and observers are welcome to attend at no cost.

-A consolation session will be held during Super Session. Observers may participate at no cost in the consolation session..

Friday, October 3, 2003:
5 PM - 9 PM

Saturday, October 4, 2003:
8 AM - 12 PM
Super Session: 1 PM - 3:30 PM
Consolation Session: 1 PM - 3:30 PM
Awards: 4 PM

Directions to Pattonville High School

Pattonville is located in suburban St. Louis County. The school is one mile south of Interstate 70 via Earth City Expressway. Turn left (east) on Creve Coeur Mill Road and go 1/4 mile to the school on your left. Pattonville High School may be familiar to coaches as it was the main venue for the 1998 "Gateway Nationals" NFL National Speech and Debate Tournament. The school is fifteen short minutes from Lambert International (St. Louis' major airport). The address is Pattonville High School/2497 Creve Coeur Mill Road/Maryland Heights, MO 63043.

Please note that Student Congress is not a MSHSAA event! The Autumn Classic doesn’t count as one of the ten tournaments allowed to a competitor.
