Unit Four Assignments
Short Web Design Guide
- Content is the most important part of your web site.
- Create your design from your content, not your content from your design. In other words, form follows function.
- Less is more. Too many technical wonders are too confusing.
- Make it clear how to move around within your site.
- Don't have too many menu pages before your get to the content. No one likes to go through more than 3 levels before finding something other than a menu. 1 or 2 levels are even better if you can do it.
- Graphic links are OK if it is clear what they are taking you to. Example of an acceptable one is a Help Icon which is a large question mark. Almost everyone will recognize what this is for.
- Make sure everything works. Check out how other common browsers may display your site. Then fix the problems.
- Spelling counts. Misspelled words make you look unprofessional. Grammar counts, too.
- Tables are a great way to display information. Frames are not.
- Don't slow up your site with unnecessary graphics. Be especially careful to make the first page load quickly. No one will read your content if they leave your page before it is displayed.
