Why Editors Are More Important
Than You Might Think


Many people, particularly writers, look down on editors as something between being Pat Robertson's fact checker and the guy who follows behind the horses in a parade carrying a shovel. And based on what it pays, it's no wonder. However, as the pictures on this page attest, sometimes you need a good editor.

By the way, the photograph above is not me, but rather Maxwell Perkins. In the 20th century, he was the Michael Jordan of editors.
