A heavy northbound San Diegan stops at Santa Ana on a weekend afternoon in July 1970. This was the last summer of operation as Santa Fe trains - Amtrak was less than a year away.

The late afternoon sun glistens off the stainless steel sides of the F-units as the train accelerates toward Los Angeles. The area beyond the train in the left center of the photo is where the Santa Ana Transportation Center is today.
