Mission Road Coach Yard

Los Angeles, California

May 1968

In the Spring of 1968 both the Los Angeles-Chicago Golden State and the Los Angeles-San Francisco Lark were discontinued. The only remaining SP passenger trains into Los Angeles were the Sunset, Coast Daylight and San Joaquin Daylight. The schedule allowed the Sunset equipment to operate through to San Francisco as the Coast Daylight with minimal servicing at Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal (LAUPT). Servicing of the San Joaquin Daylight was also switched to LAUPT and, by May 1968, the Mission Road Coach Yard was closed.

I took this photo just a few days after it closed. What a sad sight.
