Benedictine Appalachian Volunteer Program

Volunteer group The Benedictine Appalachian Volunteer Program is for women and men who are interested in experiencing volunteering in the Appalachian area of Southeastern Kentucky and living in a monastic community. The volunteer participates in community prayer, work, meals and recreation at the monastery with the opportunity to work with local service organizations.

We are located in the Appalachian mountains of Eastern Kentucky off of Highway 80, between Prestonsburg and Martin, in Floyd County. Volunteer service opportunities include Floyd, Magoffin and Johnson Counties.

The program is for two weeks to three months of service, with the possibility of a one year stay after a mutual evaluation. You must be 21 years or older, female or male and do not have any dependent children. The volunteer is responsible for transportation to and from Kentucky. While a stipend is not provided, we do provide room and board, an opportunity to experience Benedictine Spirituality and Community and a chance to integrate faith and service.

The deadline for applications is three months before you wish to begin.
