Western Religion and Meditation:

  • In the bible it is said" in the beginning was the name and the name was with God." John1:1 Western religion devotes itself to instructions guiding a person on how to live a 'Christian" life.
  • Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
  • Rule of St. Benedict
God may be glorified in all things
  • A Benedictine monk once advised us that there are Benedictine sects that repeat the Lord's name over and over. In the Jewish faith the name of the Lord is so revered that for the common man it can't be said and he is told that the name has been forgotten. It is taught in a the Jewish faith that a person should recite a prayer to the Lord at the moment he is leaving his body.
  • In Western religion the Lord is viewed as more of a guide on how a person is to direct his life on earth. More emphasis is given to the ideas expressed by the Lord than special properties that are connected to his name or expanding one's relationship with the Lord.. The Lord's verses in the Bible consistently shape us, guide us, inspire us, lead us and transform us
  • In Eastern religion the purpose of life on earth is to form a closer relationship with the Lord until a person is qualified to enter the kingdom of God.
  • You can read more about the individual, the Lord, and purification in the Bhagavad-gita As It Is-available in meditation aids.
