           Profile

Zhen Chen is currently Senior Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment at Liverpool John Moores University. He is former Senior Research Fellow of the Innovative Design and Construction for People (IDCOP) Project (part of the UK Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded programme on Sustainable Urban Environments) in the School of Construction Management and Engineering at the University of Reading. He has research interests in the theoretical models/methods and practical tools for sustainable building and infrastructure design, construction, operation, renovation and assessment.

Since 1990, he has been working as an academic in the area of construction engineering and management at many universities in Asia, Australasia and Europe, and these include Tsingtao Polytechnic University, Tongji University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Massey University, Loughborough University and University of Reading. Meanwhile, He has been enriching his worldwide professional experience in freelance consultancies for numerous construction projects. During this period, Zhen has generated more than 250 research publications and reports covering a wide range of topics related to construction engineering and management. His recent projects have addressed knowledge-based environmental management and education in the construction industry, e-commerce system and simulation for construction and demolition waste management, environmental risk measurement of construction resources consumption, and multi-criteria intelligent assessment of buildings sustainability. He is currently working on joint projects and proposals with researchers in many countries; and these research works in either construction management or intelligent buildings areas are all focusing on the sustainable development of the built environment. His research into energy efficiency in facilities management has been nominated for the Eni Italgas Prize for Energy and Environment in 2007.
