This department deals with the medical and surgical aspects in the treatment of diabetic patients. Dr.Biju Paul MD deals with the medical side and Dr.Roy Varghese MS; DNB; Phd deals with the surgical side.

Treatment of complications of Diabetes Mellitus is expensive and preventive care is the best. It is well known that Diabetes Mellitus affects all systems. Patients are assessed for Ophthalmic, Neurologic, Cardiac, Renal and Peripheral Vascular problems (Diabetic Foot) by Dr. Biju Paul, Our Physician and Diabetologist, taking care to avoid duplicity and unnecessary investigation expenses. Classes are taken for diet advice and general education of the diabetic patients. Patients in need of insulin initiation are informed about the benefits of insulin therapy and all efforts are made to remove their fears. Unstable diabetics requiring insulin therapy are admitted (if necessary) for stabilization.

Patients with diabetic foot ulcers are offered vascularity assessment that helps to predict healing or non-healing of ulcers and need for bypass. Aotobifemoral, femoropopliteal bypass, endarterectomy, thrombectomy, embolectomy are few of the vascular procedures being done by Dr. Roy Varghese, Vascular Surgeon. Patients with foot problems are advised regarding posture, walking exercises, callosity, toenail care, footwear and claw foot correction.

She is engaged in prescribing diet based on various calories to out-patients and in-patients especially having diabetics and Charting (a) Urea nil diet for Renal failure patients (b) Nasal feed for Critical Care patients and weight reducing diet for Obese patients etc.
