There are several reasons I'm saying this, one being the age of the recording. You will hardly find RHCP tapes from the mid 80's, and the ones already circulating can't compete with this one at all. The sound quality is very nice, although it's a bit distorted by Flea's bass you can still hear the instruments and vocals very clear. Apparently the tape I converted is a copy from the master. A closer look at the setlist will tell you that they had performed "Millionaires Against Hunger", a song recorded at the Freaky Styley sessions in 1985 which would be released in 1989 eventually. I have never seen or heard this track on any other live recordings before, they have probably tested it live around that time before they decided to drop it off their live set. The date of the show is a mystery, I would assume the show must have taken place sometime in 1985 or in early 1986. But due to fact they performed "Millionairs..." I rather go for '85. Several minor drop-outs were allover the recording, most of them being on encore breaks. I cut off any long gaps, only one short drop-out could appear to be annoying, you will notice it at the end of "Jungle Man" but it's really minor. The tape flip is after "Nevermind", again no music missing here. For anyone wondering about the last track, it's the taper interviewing people at the Mason Jar, hoping to get an extra encore. You can already hear the taper's voice a few times during the show. I thought it's worth keeping to give everyone an idea about how awesome it must have been to witness the RHCP in their early years. A big thank you goes out to Dave Homes who supplied me with this awesome piece of RHCP history. Enjoy!
