This book is a culmination of in-house training lecture notes and solutions to practical problems faced by actual technical cable television people. The first chapter introduces the need for a method to improve television reception and the cable television solution. Chapter 2 introduces many elementary electric circuit theorems and their application to cable television problems and systems. The material contained in Chapter 3 treats in detail the coaxial cable amplifier cascade, as well as signal transportation techniques such as supertrunking, microwave, and fiber-optic systems. Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 address the design and maintenance of the main sections of a cable television, namely the head-end source of television signals, cable system design and layout methods, system testing and measurements,and standards and records to be maintained. This whole work is aimed at practical solutions to problems and the necessary maintenance and testing procedures needed to design, build, and maintain a cable television system to today's specifications which are needed to carry National Television System Committee (NTSC) television and high-definition television (HDTV) signals.
