Here's an environment layer with a few things that might be useful to ASRX owners. All the labeled text buttons send SysEx messages to switch between effects presets on the X. They don't highlite or "click" when you press them but they do work. Also, when you look at the effects from the front panel of the X after using the buttons it will say "User Preset" instead of the name. The X thinks you've sent it a custom effect so remember which button you pressed last.

Each button is cabled to the appropriate effect type transformer (with the ASR icons). These transformers are then cabled to the bottom transformer labled "SENDTOX". To use your own multi-instrument or customize the set up you can just cable this to wherever you want to send the data. By default it's cabled to the multi-instrument "X" at the bottom of the page.

The multi-instrument for the ASRX at the bottom of the layer has all the built in sounds entered into the proper bank and ram locations. These are for the pro. If you have the black x some of these might be different.

To add your own effects configuration do this:

- Use one of the blank yellow "custom" buttons at the bottom or copy one if you need more.

- Set all the effects parameters the way you like them (on the X); save the sequence onto a floppy from the X and then import the midi file into Logic.

- When the file has been imported, open up the event list for one of the track's sequences (I don't think it makes a difference but to be safe I usually open whichever track was set to be the insert control track.)

- You should see three SysEx messages on the track. The last one (the longest) is the effects data. Select it and copy it.

- Now go back to the environment window of the song you're working on. Select the button you want to set. Then, over in the parameter bar on the left side of the window, click where it says "sysex" to open up the window with that button's data. Paste the new info in (remember to delete the old!) and you're set! Change the name of the button so you remember what's in it.

A COUPLE OF EXTRA NOTES:
- There's a parameter for "in" and "out" on the buttons and to be honest I'm not sure how those are relevant to buttons and faders sending sysex. I just put the data in both places although I think the "in" one may be redundant.

- Right now the buttons are set to transmit on midi channel 1. That's what I use for the insert control track on the X. Once again, I don't think it really makes a difference but if the buttons don't seem to work, try setting them to your insert control track's channel.

- I hope you can unzip the file. I use a mac and some of my wintel friends have had problems reading things that I've zipped on the mac. Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll send you an unzipped version. If yer using Wintel or a different version of Logic than I you may have to use "import" rather than "open". You can also just import the specific layer into your existing Autoload.

Well, that's it. Have fun with your new buttons! I think you'll be amazed by what options they can open up. If you make any improvements or have any ideas let me know.
