Orthotics are custom made devices that are designed to control the excess motions in your feet. Most foot problems are due to the muscles in the foot and leg overworking and thus they get very tired. Orthotics stop the muscles from overworking and thus from getting tired.
The process involves Dr. Levin taking a molded cast of your feet. These are called a slipper cast (notice when you have this done that the casts look like a ballerina’s shoe). The casts are then sent to a special laboratory that specializes in the fabrication of orthotics. They make the orthotic and return them to my office. The whole process from start to finish takes about 4-6 weeks.
Once you get your orthotic, there is a break in period of 2-4 months. After 3-6 months, Dr. Levin and you will decide if they are helping. Remember, for most overuse problems a cure is considered if you are 80% pain free and better.
Orthotics work well for foot pain, heel spurs, bunion, fascitis and more.
