Neuromas

A neuroma is a benign growth on the nerve.  It is due to trauma pressing on the nerve causing it to swell and be permanently damaged.  This condition is frequently seen between the 3-4 toes but can occur anywhere.  The patient usually complains of severe burning, pain, cramping and numbness of the foot.  The pain is so severe that it can cause the patient to stop walking.  Treatment consists of wide shoes, anti-inflammatory medication and cortisone injections.  However, in my experience, 99% of the patients require surgery to remove the neuroma.
