Arthritis

Arthritis is a very chronic and painful problem.   Patients frequently have pain, swelling and tenderness of the joints of the foot.  Many times these joints also are stiff in the morning.  Initially, patients should have a balance of rest and activity.  Beside that, the patient’s shoes should be wide and soft with a well-padded insole.  Warm compresses help stop the inflammation and it feels well. Treatment consists of physical therapy, therapeutic injections, oral medications, and pads to relieve the pressure.  Occasionally, surgery is needed to correct the arthritic foot.
