Aging

The most important thing that I tell my geriatric patients is to wear wide, soft comfortable shoes.  It is important not to wear tight shoes or socks.  The best time to purchase shoes is at the end of the day when your feet are the most swollen.  Remember that you should be able to wiggle your toes in the toe box.  If you have severe deformed feet you should consider custom molded shoes.  It is important for the elderly to continue moving and exercising.  If you stop moving, then many problems will occur.  When you move, you stay young.  Remember “you’re as young as your feet”.

Most common problems of the elderly are arthritis, ingrown toenails, thick toenails, callus, diabetes and ulcers.

I can help you with regular professional footcare on a routine basis.
