You know it was a dang fine day on the track when the scariest moments was driving home.
While on the outsirts of Scarborough (okay, it was Markham/401), we witnessed within 1 minute 2 bouts of road rage that could have ended in very tragic circumstances. Both near misses caused by the same car! First one was on the entrance to the highway that merges from 2 lanes to one. The car in question signaled from the outside lane, wanting to merge into the closer lane. The other vehicle behind wouldn't let him go, but the first car was running out of room - so car in front stuffs the guy in the back, and the car behind is accelerating, causing it to swerve violently out of the way while hitting the brakes. If he had overcorrected and fishtailed, that would have been ugly. Thirty seconds later, the same car that cut the first guy off signals and slowly lane changes left. Another car from behind was going pretty quick, and then slams on the brakes while at the same time high beam flashes like crazy. Finally, he too violently cuts to the left lane, and zips past. I'm sure that guy didn't do a blind spot check when he pulled out around the first car. We were like "WOAH!" on both times. Crazy. Crazy. So we progressed on, and 10 minutes later, as we merged onto the HWY407 (the paid one), the lanes were restricted to one lane as they merged from the 407 and 404 entrance. There were cones abound and we were doing no more than 80 when 2 yahoos out of nowhere decided to cut us off. The first SUV to do so was already pretty close, but when the second guy decided to also jam in front of us, we had to literally slam on the brakes, Dashin yelling profanity the whole way through. I even put on my seatbelt afterwards, that's how scary/close it was. You know, people always slag me about bikes being dangerous, but I tell you what - I'd rather be passing someone off the backstraight of Fabi at 200kph than to drive on a public highway towing 3 bikes any day! ....And they say I'm nuts. |
